Dr. Choman Hardi, Director of the Center for Gender and Development Studies and Assistant Professor (English) and Dr. Lynn Rose, CGDS Deputy Director and Professor (Social Sciences) traveled to Cairo to represent CGDS at Tashweesh: Conversations and Encounters in Feminism, an event organized and sponsored by the Goethe Institute. Dr. Choman read her poetry and moderated the keynote speech, “Justice and Gendered Vulnerability: Feminist Politics and (Im)possible Solidarities,” by Nikita Dhawan. Dr. Lynn presented “Invisible Women,” on the CGDS research project (with Ms. Goshan Mohammed, Lecturer in Math and Science) on incarcerated women in Sulaimani. Tashweesh was held on the Goethe Institute’s Dokki campus in Cairo 8-12 November 2018. Drs. Choman and Lynn also met with colleagues in Gender Studies at the American University of Cairo and Cairo University as part of their project for the recently awarded EU grant on educational development.
