Global Campaign:
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign which takes place each year and runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day). Widely known as the ‘16 Days Campaign’, it is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
At AUIS:
AUIS students will use these 16 days to raise their voices against, and create awareness of, violence against women through various initiatives, events and activities on campus. There will be students rallies, documentary screenings, guest lectures, student videos and an event arranged by The Action Group (TAG) during the 16 days.
The AUIS community arranged different events and activities around the campus throughout the 16 days of the global campaign.
Petro States and Women's Rights
December 10, 2015
Joint panel discussion with Dr Choman Hardi and Dr Bilal Wahab about women's rights in the region. Dr. Bilal spoke about the correlation between women's rights and oil wealth. Dr. Choman addressed the resilience of patriarchy and the state‘s role in utilizing economy, technology and religion to construct specific kinds of masculinity and femininity tailored to specific political ends.

The Action Group (TAG) held a seminar where students presented their research findings on projects related to equality and gender discrimination, read poetry, and played music.

The campaign kicked off with the book launch of Choman Hardi's "Considering the Women". There was a hand-painting event and student presentation about the campaign at the book launch. Students Shatoo Diyar Bakir and Zhiwar Jawhar spoke at the event about the AUIS Orange the World campaign.
