On March 30, 2022, Mr. Hama Shex Hady, an artist near completion of his degree at the University of Sulaimani, spoke about his art in the “Introduction to Disability Studies” class. He also spoke about the obstacles that people with disabilities face when they seek their rights. This class, which focuses on disability as a cultural and historical phenomenon, and on disability rights as social justice, is part of the gender minor.
Image description: There are two photos. In one, twenty-two people—14 men and eight women—stand in a row in a classroom, behind a desk and against a projection screen and white board. In the other, a man with dark curly hair sits at a desk, looking to his right. Behind him is a large screen on which is projected a black and white drawing. We see a laptop, a bottle of water, and a microphone on the desk in front of him.
