On February 27, 2022, Dr. Choman Hardi delivered a seminar on women’s rights in the KRI since 1992 at the Clubhouse’s KurdishLivesMatter room. Dr. Choman talked about the positive changes brought about by the women’s rights organizations and whether these changes have led to a reduction in gender-based violence. The backlash against the women’s movement was also addressed as well the consequences of gender essentialism, conflating sex with gender, conflating gender balance with gender mainstreaming, the weakness of the feminist discourse, and lack of understanding of basic principles of feminist work were also highlighted.
