On June 25, 2021, CGDS Deputy Director Dr. Lynn Rose participated in a digital symposium on disabilities in antiquity. The focus of the symposium was on how in antiquity visual, auditive, and mobility impaired individuals found their place in society. The symposium was organized on the occasion of the retirement of Dr. Geralda Jurriaans-Helle, the curator of the Greek and Near Eastern collections in the Allard Pierson Museum, the archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam. Following the speakers was a pilot digital exhibition on the subject. Dr Lynn’s talk was “Disabling False Equivalents,” on interpreting the ancient legal sources from the lens of gender and disability studies.
