Dr. Lynn Rose attended the Fourth World Disability Conference, where her paper, “Disability Perceptions and Policy in Sulaimani, Kurdistan,” was named Best Session Paper. The paper summarized CGDS’s activities in educating K-12 students about disability social justice as part of the EU grant to promote gender equity in Iraq and the MENA region through education. Dr. Lynn points out that ”we at CGDS believe that gender inequity is part of a larger systemic imbalance, and the whole system must be addressed to effect positive change. We work to dismantle not only sexism but all forms of discrimination, such as ableism, homophobia, and ethnocentrism.” Dr. Lynn also served as session chair for “Disability Rights, Facilitating Career and Employment Opportunities“ and “Equalization of Opportunities and Independent Living for Individuals with Disabilities.” The conference was held on November 7th and 8th, 2019, in Bangkok, Thailand.
