“Feminism in Kurdistan” with Dr. Choman Hardi

On Tuesday, September 29th, CGDS Director Dr. Choman Hardi spoke on an Instagram Live event, “Feminism in Kurdistan.” Mr. Mohammed Faith, an AUIS graduate who is studying for his MA in Applied Islamic Ethics at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, hosted the session. The Live discussion started with Dr. Choman introducing herself and her work at CGDS. Mr. Mohammed asked questions about the meaning of feminism, the difference between feminism and gender studies, and why feminists are perceived to be angry. He also asked, if men and women are basically the same (i.e., their main differences are a socially constructed), and since men too can be victims and women can be victimizers, “why should we pay attention to issues of gender?” Dr. Choman responded to these questions and also addressed questions and comments from the audience. The link to the conversation is here:
