The Second International Conference on Disability and Diversity in Asia Accepts Dr. Lynn Rose's Paper for Presentation

The Center for Gender and Development Studies is pleased to announce that Dr. Lynn Rose, Deputy Director of CGDS, has had a paper accepted for presentation at the Second International Conference on Disability and Diversity in Asia, to be held September 24th and 25th 2019 at the Universitas Brawijaya Law Faculty in Malang, Indonesia. The paper, “Three Generations of Disability Awareness in Kurdistan,” explores the process by which the oldest generation, scholars trained in Disability Studies, is training university students, who will train the youngest generation: school children in the public schools of Sulaimani. With the support of a grant from the EU for promoting diversity and gender equity through education, CGDS developed this training program, to be followed up with policy recommendations to the Ministry of Education. The conference theme is “Theorizing Advocacy and Research for Disability Policy and Social Inclusion.” CGDS’ involvement in disability studies is part of is commitment to supporting diversity in all communities; CGDS became an affiliated institutional member of the Society for Disability Studies earlier this year.
