Ms. Goshan Mohammed, Lecturer in Math and Sciences at AUIS and CGDS veteran, participated in the IFMSA Conference at the University of Sulaymaniyah’s Old Campus. The conference was facilitated by the Kurdistan branch of IFMSA, the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations. The conference focused on raising awareness on gender health and inequality. Each participant discussed an issue in relation to their field of expertise and in terms of how gender based violence is an act that society should be more aware of. Ms. Goshan showed a demographic chart of the percentage of GBV in the provinces and cities of Iraq. It became apparent that the Kurdistan Region has the lowest rate of GBV. However, this is not to take away from the reality that GBV is present in Kurdistan. Other participants included singer and humanitarian activist Ms. Dashni Mourad; lawyer Ms. Soma Yasin; Sonia Sardar, case manager for Rasan Organization; and Ms. Khanm Rahim Latif, adviser to Iraqi President Barham Salih.
