The Professional Development Institute (PDI) at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) facilitated two organizational development workshops in financial management and human resources (HR) for Mercy Corps´s INNOVATE program in Sulaimani. The workshops took place on June 17 – 20, 2019 (Financial Management) and June 26 – 27, 2019 (HR) and were taught by Mr. Soran Sadiq and Ms. Rava Khorshid. The objective of the workshops was to build the sustainability of Mercy Corps’ local partners through capacity building. The INNOVATE program is itself implemented through a partnership with local NGOs. The PDI workshops were part of the INNOVATE project initiated by Mercy Corps to reduce the vulnerability of conflict-affected youth through increased livelihood outcomes utilizing an approach that fosters psychosocial wellbeing. The workshops provided a comprehensive view of financial management and HR principles and strategies as well as an introduction to different tools for managing their processes. The program also focused on understanding long-term thinking in financial management and HR as well as techniques for developing various policies, procedures and guidelines within both fields. The scope of the program also involved a follow up period by the trainers to measure the outcomes for the workshop and to support the NGOs in applying the learning in their daily work. The Professional Development Institute (PDI) seeks to identify and provide value-adding programs and services to develop individuals´ knowledge and skills necessary for achieving personal and professional goals.
