American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) held a two-day Teacher Training Program (TTP) on September 7 and 8, 2022 for 100 high school teachers from Sulaimani as part of the University's mission to support education across the region. Teachers from Sulaimani's East and West administrative disctricts submitted more than 500 applications for the free program, from which 100 participants were selected in a random lottery.
Faculty members from AUIS's Academic Preparatory Program (APP), Professional Development Institute (PDI), and Undergraduate Program delivered five courses covering various topics from reducing student anxiety, to teaching Gen Z students, to incorporating technology into the classroom, and more.
Organized by the University's Admissions and APP departments, the training was conducted in English and Kurdish, provided a fully-catered lunch and transportation stipend, and had student and staff volunteers on hand to assist local teachers with registration and navigating the AUIS campus. Participants were awarded certificated of completion in a ceremony at the end of the training.
This was the fifth TTP event hosted by AUIS, following successful trainings held in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. AUIS is committed to providing professional development opportunities to educators across the region.
