Heavy Duty Off-Road DC Electromagnetic Train

Electromagnetic rail-train technology changes rapidly with the development of power electronics and magnetic materials. Permanent Magnet (PM) motors are becoming more effective in rail-train applications due to the development of permanent magnets. In this research a linear Permanent Magnet Transverse-Flux (PMTF) motor is suggested for an urban-type electromagnetic vehicle. The benefits of using such a motor lay in its topology.  The number of stator poles in PMTF machines is two times lower than the number of rotor poles. Ifthe magnetic poles serve as magnetic rails, the total material cost of the train decreases. The O-shaped winding and U-shaped magnetic poles in PMTF machines are easy tomanufacture and maintain. Applying the additional magnetic poles decreases cogging effect of the machine, noise, and vibration.
