The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) is a young institution in the safe and welcoming city of Sulaimani, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. AUIS was established in 2006 and has developed rapidly. Enrollment currently exceeds 1000, with students drawn from all regions of the country, and AUIS is poised for steady growth in future years. New buildings and facilities have been constructed on a small portion of a new campus of more than 400 acres. AUIS is Iraq’s only private, nonprofit university based on the American model of higher education, with all classes taught in English.
We are now looking for faculty, pending budget approval, who will guide the first generation of engineering students at AUIS, are able to teach undergraduate engineering courses, aid in the design and implementation of curriculum and instructional laboratories, and contribute to the continuing formation and development of this young program. Open rank position in Engineering, specializing in the broad area of engineering mechanics and material science with knowledge of and ability to teach thermo-fluid courses. Responsibilities include: Teach introductory and advanced courses and laboratories in undergraduate engineering and related fields; develop and teach courses and laboratories in engineering mechanics, manufacturing, materials, thermo-fluid areas, and CAD; be actively engaged in teaching, advising, professional development and service activities, and participate in activities related to ABET accreditation.
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering field from a US, Canadian, or Western European institution (candidates will be considered if degree completion is assured before duties commence); demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills; demonstrated strong commitment to teaching; and, demonstrated ability to develop and teach courses and laboratories in the engineering mechanics, material science, thermo-fluid systems areas and CAD.
