Dr. Ako Rashed, associate professor, took his Water Resources Engineering and Water Supply and Sewerage Classes on a field trip to Dokan Dam and Sulaimaniyah Water Treatment Plant on the 28th of September. The purpose of the field trip was to help the students get familiar with the concepts they are learning in the engineering courses. Dokan Dam is a concrete arch dam of 116 m height and has a capacity of 7 million cubic meter. Dokan Dam and Darbandixan dam cover one third of the Iraqi cities need of drinking and irrigation water. The second part of the trip was to the water treatment plant of Sulaimani in Dokan. The treatment plant has been constructed in 2009 and it is the main source of drinking water for Sulaimani city with a capacity of 12,000m3/hr.
