The Basil Mahdi Al-Rahim Charity Foundation Scholarship Fund honors the memory of late Basil Al-Rahim, chief executive officer of private equity group MerchantBridge and member of the board of directors of AsiaCell, who passed away in a plane crash in Sulaimani in 2011.
 
The Charity Foundation awarded scholarships to students from 2015 through 2018. The grant provides full scholarship for these students for the entire course of their studies at AUIS, including residence, books and tuition. The students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 to remain eligible to receive the scholarship.
