AUIS encourages sports and athletics strongly, and offers football and basketball courts for both men and womens' teams and several indoor sports like table tennis and chess.

The AUIS women’s basketball team gained international recognition a few years ago when an American film company decided to make a documentary on them. The film, Salaam Dunk, premiered in the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2011, and went on to win an award at the Chicago Film Festival in the same year.
