Periasamy is an experimental laser Physicist with more than 20 years experience teaching undergraduate courses in physics and geology. His current research interests include building of high power lasers and laser electro-optics and electronics, the evaluation of pedagogy of teaching methods in Physics, developing Java applets for effective use in classroom teaching, mathematical modeling and the detection of counterfeit antimalarial drugs using laser Raman spectroscopy. Periasamy has worked on U.S. Department of Education projects to develop interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through junior enrichment programs that incorporate summer programs aimed at inquiry based learning about science through lab experiments and interactive discussions.
